This research was conducted for a leading Finnish university. The university sought to modernize and digitize its educational service offerings, spanning degree programs and continuous learning, but lacked clarity on the landscape of available technologies.
To guide its decisions, it needed strategic research across five key domains: administration systems, assessment and evaluation tools, student guidance technologies, online course platforms, and platform-level curriculum customization.
Systems and tools are scattered, limiting visibility and integration.
Difficult to identify which emerging solutions fit strategic needs.
Finding trustworthy and aligned collaborators takes too long.
Over an 8-week structured program, Catapult facilitated an intensive research process: beginning with stakeholder workshops and defining focus areas, then mining and filtering a global database with millions of tech firms to a longlist of ~1252, and further narrowing that down to 103 and finally 12 relevant companies using NLP, analyst validation, and client feedback.
The end deliverable was a comprehensive market overview, segmentation, investment landscape, and targeted solution proposals aligned with the university’s needs.
The university gained an investment landscape and general information about the market.
We also provided a breakdown of the investment landscape as well as a comprehensive analysis of the top 4 investors in each focus area.
The research included a detailed look at the 5 major segments in the edtech market.
With the widespread adoption of software-based services and innovations, education has fallen under the B2C umbrella, creating several novel offerings and deploying new learning models. Additionally, COVID-19 has had a strong impact on the education market. It has fueled investment opportunities speeding up the digital transformation of players in this field.
The project brought a comprehensive picture of the education technology market as well as a deep-dive into some interest areas based on the university’s specific needs. Consequently, this accelerates the university in digitalising and developing its educational service offerings, which serve in both degree and continuous learning programs. Ultimately, this will improve the overall experience at the university, including teaching, studying, research, etc.
